Hannah AMES born VT 1797 married David SMITH died OH 1851

Help! I've been trying to trace my great great grandmother, Hannah AMES, for over 40 years with no luck. All I know of her is that she was born in Vermont. Based on her age at death given on her tombstone I calculate her birth date as 8 May 1797, but this may be only reasonably accurate. She was either the second or third wife of my GG grandfather, David SMITH (born Dutchess County, NY 1781 died OH 1849). I do not know when or where they married: he had variously lived in eastern Ohio (Warren County) and western New York (Oneida County, perhaps also elsewhere). The first of David's children who I can state with authority was born to Hannah was Reason SMITH born 1821 in Wooster Township, Warren County, Ohio. The family located to York Township, Sandusky County, Ohio in 1833 and remained there until the death of both parents (and for two generations further). Other children I know were Hannah's were Eliza SMITH (born 1826) married Volney Alexander SIMPSON; Martha Eliza SMITH (born 1830) married Franklin P. McNitt; Harrison SMITH (born 1833); and my great grandfather Charles Theodore SMITH (born 1840). Another child whom she mentions in her will but was most probably a step-daughter born to her husband's second wife was Mary Ann SMITH born 1812 in NY, married Galen P. Billings (possibly had a first husband) later moved to Indiana, then Michigan.

I would be most grateful for any help anyone can give me in identifying Hannah's birth county in Vermont, and/or her parents. Even hints are helpful!
