Alison,
My Leonard Amero seems to be a mystery, as does the Amero name!
I do know that there was (and still is) a whole bunch of Amero's in Gloucester since the mid 1800's. Unfortunatly, mine was not. Although they could be his cousins.
I heard that when an Amirault married someone not in there religious faith, they then took on the Amero last name as did their children....I don't have any evidience of this and neither did the person who told me that. But, it is definatly believable...or it could just be a misspelling...but, this name change supposably transpired while in Nova Scotia, so how could you misspell your family name and let it continue without someone picking up on it?
Hopefully this Genforum will shed light on the subject.
Thanks for replying, good luck and keep on posting!
Sherrill Amero
