William Goad was the son of John and Margaret Goad of the Bedford/Pittsylvania area of Virginia. John was a first cousin to Joannah Goad, mother of Gen. and Gov. John Sevier, both being children of John and Catherine Goad of Bedford County, Va.
Wlliam born ca 1754 married (1) Elizabeth "Betsy" Morrison, daughter of Rev. soldier Patrick Morrison. William came to eastern Tenn. early enough to be an "over the montain man" at King's Mountain under uncle andCol., John Sevier.
In 1782, father John, wife Margaret, and several brothers (John, Jr., Gabriel, Lewis, Peter) joined William on Bays Montain near present-day Kingsport. (today a beautiful nature preserve). There they built a mountain villlage complete with a church and a school. The school was used many decades after most of the Goads left.
By 1803, they removed to Hopkins County, Kentucky with only William remaining behind where he died in Hawkins County in 1835. At about age seventy, he married Mary Hall, age 21, ans sdhe bore him two sons, William.Jr. and Peter.
It is possible that Lewis above was a son of William's first marriage instead of his brother. (No proof either way).
Peter,Sr. died in Hopkins County, John.Jr. founded a Goad clan in Posey County, Indiana as did Gabriel in Crawford County, Indiana.
I wrote a book on the Goad family.
