Ed,
The DAR Patriot Index shows two James Grants from VA. One b. ca. 1755, served as pvt. in SC, d. SC ca. 4 Nov 1820, no pension, spouse Dorcus X
The other b. VA 1723, public service in NC, d. NC bef 4--1808, no pension, spouse Ann X
Gwathmey's "Virginians in the Rev." shows 4 listings for James Grants as follows:
1. served in the 7th & 8th VA Regiments of the Continental Line
2. Corporal, Infantry, nbll.(name appeared on Army Register but had not received bounty land)
3. Navy, E.("Index of the Rev. records in the Virginia State Archives" by Eckenrode
4. of Loundoun, E.(same as above)
Brumbaugh's "Rev. War Records- VA" shows only one James Grant on page 241 under Bounty Land Warrants. It shows him as a Corporal in the Infantry.
Hope this helps,
Sharon
