You basically had 2 branches of service the army and the navy. The continental line was part of the army which was composed of soldiers paid by the Continental Congress (Continental Line) and soldiers paid by the various states (militia). The Congress levyed each state to provide so many units which it then provided funds for.
If you have not done so you need to get the microfilm of the Pension and Bounty Land Warrants.WHat you get on the film is all the records there are, the Archives do not have additional pension records that were no filmed.
A second microfilm series you need to check is the Revolutionary War Compiled Service Records. These were not based on original federal records but were from state records that were then entered onto little cards and then put in alphabetical order.
There is no Henry Painter listed in the DAR Patriot Index.THis means that no female direct descedant has joined the DAR using Henry as her qualifying ancestor.
