No Joseph Thorp either.Must have been asleep when I typed the answer.
To be listed, not only did the person have to support the American cause, he or she then had to have a female direct descendant who was interested enough to join the DAR. There are large number of mem and women who had service and are not listed.Every National Board (6 times a year) there are new ancestors proven. The service is not new - its just that some one have finanlyy proven the connection.
As to the widow being denied a pension. That does not invalidate the service or prevent you from joining DAR.Pensions were denied for a large number of reasons that had nothing to do with the service. The Soldier himself may have collected a pension.Widows were denied if they had not married that soldier by a specific time (originally end of war, but this was expanded over time), or could not prove the marriage, or had to much property, or could not prove actual need, etc.The pension file for Rev War is available on microfilm and is listed alphabetically by soldier's name. You can go to your local FHC and order the right film and go through the information your self a lot faster than getting a copy of the file from DC.All of the papers on the file are on the film is you use full records. There are two microfilm series M804 and M805.One is selected records and only contains the papers some one at the archives thought were of genealogical value- the other one is the entire file. Can't find my cheat note to say which is which.
