Keep in mind that the County Militias were all free, white able-bodied males between ages roughly 16 and 60 (varies by time and place).Most militiamen saw no active duty.All such persons were obligated to attend regular drill and nose-counting sessions (not considered active-duty service), which is when most surviving miltia rosters were created.
Active duty for most militiamen could include such things as patrolling, guarding prisoners or assisting to escort supplies bound elsewhere.
The book does not give much detail for most persons.
