RE-VISITING FAULTY REASONING BY THE DAR
Paragraph 5 of DAR letter, dated 3 Feb. 2011 to Suzanne
Witt Adrian in regard supplemental covering Reuben Bates, Sr. (1731-1800) of Louisa Co., VA.
"Unfortunately the supposition put forward by Mr. Bates
(Wayne Witt Bates) that the Mr. Duvall who received Reuben's
pay is not correct. Had Maj Duvall picked up Reuben's pay
he would have been identified as Maj Duvall. This is determined by looking in War Volume 4 - the original source of the information.
HOW COULD IT BE DETERMINED FROM LOOKING AT THE SOURCE
THE SOURCE - WAR VOL. 4 PAGE 94
Bates, Reuben - Soldier of the Infantry - paid by Mr. Duval on March 4,1783 - 36.0.0
THE FACTS - FROM PAGE 3 OF PENSION S8362
Ex officer William Duval and Mister Duval were one and
the same. He lived in Louisa Co. from 1781 until October
1783. The above Soldier pay stub (War Vol. 4) "paired- up"
Reuben Bates with ex officer William Duval, They were
neighbors in Louisa Co. Both are listed on the 1783 TAX List for Louisa Co. In 1783, William Duval was the only Duval on the Tax List
OFF TOPIC, BUT INTERESTING
1. DAR Chapter named for son of ex officer William Duval
2. Duval Co., Florida named for son of ex officer Wm. Duval
3. Duval Co., Texas named for Burr H. Duval, who was killed by Mexicans at Battle of Goliad, TX. Gtandsons of
