What someone 'says' is not sufficient to prove anything.
If the thesis does NOT contain the documentation for saying "Thomas Hunstable was by order of Gen. Nathaniel Green to build 'scows' for tranport of artillery across the Connecticut River", they your sister needs to contact the person whose thesis you're quoting, and ask THEM the documentation they used, and where they got it. Then, get your own copy. That will be accepted, but not what someone has 'said' is so....or something quoted from a book, or anything else, that is undocumented. Those are secondary records and not acceptable as proof. Only the document that has the info is usable as proof of an event.
