If your man was killed as part of the Indian Wars you are looking in the wrong place (American Revolution records) for information.

There are manuscript collections that have some information about activity related to relations with and military activities against the Cherokee in the Carolinas and Georgia. The George Washington Papers in the Library of Congress have some material. The Lyman Draper Manuscripts in the Wisconsin State Historical Society also have some information.

Message Boards concerning "Indian Wars" may have some viewers with leads for you.
