Since you have access to his service record, the question is more about the person's life-path (genealogical).
Your question would more fruitfully be addressed to the surname message board and the message board for the locality he lived in.
If you are speculating about whether you have a connection with him, your best avenue might be to go personally to the County where your earliest known possible connection with him may be and check local court records for whether there might be some related action, such as a wife's asking for subsistence support for her and children while her husband was away. The State Archive might also have holdings in these court records.
Another avenue is to list all of the men in the Company or Companies he served in and look to see if any applied for Congressional Pensions -- you can find these on footnote.com and Ancestry.com, both of which have free-trial periods. Your local library may also subscribe to either service for patron use.
Such pension applications usually say where the person lived during and after the war. Sometimes, but not always in the Continentals, many or most of those in the same Company were from the same area. If an applicant stayed put, there may even be affidavits by fellow soldiers who also were within reach, verifying that they served together.
