Can I join the Sons of the American Revolution ?

My GGG Grandfather was in the War of 1812 at Buffalo NY.
This war being a continuation of the Revolutinary War would this qualify me to become a member of the SAR? His name being Asel Hale b. 1790. I have found other military records that indicate his father Elijah b. 1765 in Conn. and his father Joseph Hale b. 1732 in Conn. may have been in the Amer. Rev War, however it will have to be verified, There names appear in records, if they are my ancestors has to be determined. Thanks in advance for any help. Ralph Hale
