The Library of Virginia has an index to Public Service Claims reimbursed by the State Legislature. Go to the LVA's web site index
click on the Revolutionary War records link, then look for Public Service Claims. The search engine is easy to use, especially if you use the lower box and just type in a surname.
Be sure to look for her name as well.
If you find entries, look at the publication data for the reference. Volumes (available in major libraries) & the individual booklets for each County have been published. They can readily be found for sale. The original entries might indicate selling a thing or a service that was to be used in the Patriot cause.
You'd still have to prove that "same name = same person."
If you don't find entries for reimbursement by the State, you may find some references in the County Court records for each place they lived, which can be searched in person at the State Library.
Your man was probably too old to be active-duty militia, but militia recors also can be found at the State Library.
