Gerald, The 10th VA no longer existed when most of the VA Regiments were surrendered at Charleston. It had been consolidated and renamed the 6th VA exactly a year previous. You can search the British Archives (Kew) catalog regarding POW's giving the dates 1780-1782. You would be looking for items in the War Office papers of Charles Cornwallis (commander at Charleston until he took off for Yorktown) and of Geoffrey Amherst (commander in chief). Papers of the Commissary of Prisoners may still exist listing POWs. But many of the pertinent papers that had not already been sent to London may have been destroyed during the Yorktown campaign. There is some correspondence regarding POWs, and some papers regarding paroles, but there may not be overall comprehensive lists as were kept in Montreal. Once you have a list of document groups you want to look at from the Public Records Office group, you can contact the Public Archive of Canada in Ottawa and see if they have them on microfilm. Then you can go to Ottawa and look at them. Or you can hire someone to go to Kew to search the Cornwallis papers and Amherst papers and whatever other War Office papers may be pertinent. Good hunting! Notify Administrator about this message?
