source reliability
Hi,
My cousin, William Hoffman was born in New Jeresy on May 12, 1742. -This information is from www.rootsweb.com. Among the sources listed are -DAR Library, Hoffman family of North Carolina. Does this mean William b. 1742, was a soldier in the Revolutionary War?(or the genealogy is at the Dar, but doesn't mean anything.) There is a man that matches my William's description, of dates and such. The only thing to question, is that the man listed in the DAR book was from Holland. This may be wrong. No one is perfect, and I'm sure the DAR makes mistakes also.
How can I validate this information?
The soldier was born 1742, Holland, and died 1-26-1816 New Jersey. married Mary (unknown) served in the First New Jersey, first esablishment, under Capt. Polhemus.
Thank you for helping,
Stefan
