16th. Regiment N.Y. Albany Co. Militia
Need to obtain a record of my great-ancestors service in this regiment.Joseph Wells (born 1726)reached the rank of Major. His sons also served: Henry (born 1763), Timothy (born 1756) and my ancestor, Shaler Wells (born 1761).Shaler is listed in the 1840 census for Genesee County as a Rev. War Vet. (his name is misspelled Sailor Weels.)I found him on Ancestry under NEW YORK IN THE REVOLUTION AS COLONY AND STATE:Albany County Militia--Sixteenth Regiment, rank--Enlisted Men, Name--Shelar Wells (it is Shaler Wells).Another source (private records) listed his pension # as S23480.Is NARA the best place to go for this particular type of military record? If yes, what can I expect to get from them? Are the records for Rev. War soldiers as complete as Civil War?Or is there an online source that you would recommend.Need to verify all of the above for my DAR application.Any guidance you can give would be most appreciated.
