Mary E Ambler Jacobs was my great- grandmother (her daughter Elvira Jacobs was my maternal grandmother's mother). She did marry Dickens Jacobs abt 1858-1860 and by 1860 they were in Liberty, Filmore County, NE where Dickens Jacobs was farming. Sometime between then and 1880 they had moved to Arapahoe County, CO. I have not researched Mary Ambler Jacobs sister Sarah much, but you could check to see whether they moved to other states further west also. By the way, I don't believe Mary and Sarah's father died. There was a rumor in our family that their father (Eli Ambler?) was possibly a homosexual and that Elizabeth (her mother) left him in the late 1840's and moved back in with her parents until she remarried (James Erwin of Tama Iowa in 1851). Mr. Ambler came from a prominent VA family of Amblers and the whole thing was hushed up.
