Dear Dean
Found your site.I was born in Catania, Sicily where all my family come from. I moved to England with my family in the mid-60s when I was a child so remember little about the place. My dad is Vito Amaddio, my mother Giovanna. My paternal grandfather was Giuseppe Amaddio and his father was Vito (a very popular name in Sicily. My paternal great grandmother was called Tomasina. It is very common in Sicily that the children take the names of the grandparents so you will find the same names coming up.I went to New York a few years ago and visited Ellis Island and found an Emma Amaddio who was registered as entering America in the early 1900's.Tried to trace the person who gave those details but had no response. There are variation on the surname - one D or 2 Ds.I take it you know that the direct translation of the name means "loves God". My dad is under the impression that Amaddio derives mainly from Sicily. My grandfather's younger brother Salvatore, moved to Perth Australia in the 60s.He is the last of that generation. All his children are girls so they did not keep the Amaddio name.My Dad has a brother called Nino who has a few sons.I have two brothers and a sister. Both my brothers have sons.I will try and find out as much as I can from my parents, but its very difficult to get correct dates etc from "the old country" as they kept very little records in those times.Do keep in touch.
With best wishes.
