I hope you need this information and did not already have it as I am behind in everything but I gave you my time to research this family in the 1880 and 1900 soundexes for the New York census records. I found Ignace but not his brother Joseph, for whatever reason. Please note that I did not check the actual censuses, just the indexes, so the enumerator's writing and details will be more authoratative and comprehensive than these extracts, especially for 1900. 1880 Verona, Oneida County NY, E.D. 147, page 28, lines 4-7: 30 - Aman, Ignece 19 - Aman, Josephine 02 - Aman, Lewis 8/12 - Aman, Minnie 1900 Verona H..., Oneida County NY, E.D. 90, page 2A, lines 8-14: 02/1850 Amann, Ignace L. (born Germany) 05/1860 Amann, Josephine (born New York) 04/1878 Amann, Louis V. (NY) 10/1879 Amann, Wilhelmina (NY) 08/1882 Amann, Albert J. (NY) 09/1887 Amann, Josephine A. (NY) 07/1893 Amann, Leona M. (NY) From this I would guess that they were married by mid-1877. If you find their marriage record, you'll find Josephine's maiden name. Also, the 1900 index say Ignace was naturalized, which means he became a citizen, so there might be a record somewhere of that too, and it may even give his exact birth date, when he came to America, and the town in Europe he came from. Why was he recorded as born in France in 1880, then in Germany 20 years later? Perhaps he came from an area where the German Empire had gained control during that time period? Ideas for you to check out...
