Bernie Alwes was owner of Alwes Outdoor Advertising in Louisville, KY before selling out to I think Naegele Advertising who has since been sold.
Mr Alwes was an artist who often did the Emmett Kelly painting over the top of other documents - my father passed away in January, 2012 and I was able to retrieve such a painting of Emmett Kelly by Mr Alwes that is on a 1982 Wall Street Journal.
Dad and Mr Alwes, along with Chuck Thompson formerly of Montgomery, AL ( now deceased ) and Bill Price of Chattanooga ( owned National Printing ) were all good friends in the billboard business.
The family of the four often vacationed together. In 1969 while at Boot Camp at Fort Knox I had the pleasure of being able to stay with the Alwes family while on weekend pass.
Mr Alwes had a daughter named Jill and a son named Kenny. Jill is married and somewhere in the Louisville area. Kenny is in the Nashville area and has an advertising agency.
I just took my Alwes painting to a local frame shop for upgrades. My daughter has requested I give it to her but then my 13 y/o grandson has stated "Well Mom, when you die I want it." Nice to know it will stay in the family.
