One more correction. Thaddeus and his family went from Michigan to Kirtland, Ohio in 1835. Two of Thaddeus's elder daughters, by another wife, were with the first group to Far West, Missouri. Thaddeus and his extended family went later.
I have additional information on Sally Briggs and Thaddeus, but afraid it will have to be from memory, as I have the material boxed and put away at present. My information comes from a variety of sources to include family accounts, LDS history records, the history of Michigan, the book compiled by Samuel Morgan Alvord, and other research. Thaddeus had four wives and 15 children. His first wife, Sally Wellington, whom he married in 1801 in Lockport, New York, died in 1810.He next married Martha Bromely and she died in Waterford, Michigan, 1824. Back in Lockport he married Sally (Celestina) Briggs and they went to Michigan.
In an account sent to a history society in Michigan, it was reported that Sally Briggs Alvord was converted to the LDS Church by Joseph Smith's mother Lucy Mack in 1833 and Sally convinced Thaddeus to join. Thaddeus originally traveled to Pontiac, Michigan and then Waterford with Joseph Smith's uncle. Think his name was Stephan Mack, but could have the wrong first name.
There is an account written by Thaddeus Alvord about the loss of his property in Missoui contained in the multi-volume History of the Mormon Church.
Thaddeus and Sally went to Winter Quarters with the orignal group leaving Navoou. Thaddeus then left his family and went back to St. Joseph, Missouri to help build wagons for the Mormans going west.He returned to Winter Quarters and the family traveled to Utah with the Silas Richard's group in 1849. Sally Briggs Alvord died in Utah in 1851.Thaddeus later moved to North Ogden. He helped build and develop the irrigation systems in Utah, a skill he gained in part from working on the canals near Lockport and in Michigan.
Note: Expect I may be related to Delores Hunter of North Ogden. My great aunt, Susan Alvord Farr Hunter, was born in North Ogden.
