Jim,I'm sorry but I don't have much more info on the Alves family. I have two books I purchased that have marriages and obits that ran in Lexington area newspapers roughly between the years of 1797-1865. When I have time I have been posting obits to variouss web sites.
This was the only Alves obit that I have but I do have a marriage.
"James P. Breckenridge, formerly of Lexington, to Maria, daughter of James Alves, all of Henderson, Ky. Married April 10, 1849." This ran in the Lexington Observer and Reporter on May 2, 1849.
A note about the obits. The book says that some have been edited to simply contain info. that would be of use to genealogists but that some of them were actually longer with more information. So, it might be worth trying to track these announcements down.
