Pepe,
Thank you, and yes you are right, although my gr gr gr great grandfather did not come over with Menendez, Jose Alvarez did come from Asturias- he was born in Asturias in 1771 and came over to Fl. sometime around 1790(?) we think. His first son Roman was born in 1817 and his second son, my gr gr gr grandfather Joseph was born in 1819 in Amelia Isl. Fl. (Fernandina Beach area) I am trying to fit all the puzzle pieces from Jose's children together and trace the rest of my family- i have pretty much the whole line from Jose down to my son now- i am just trying to put together the rest of this story with all of Jose's descendents to today to pass on to my son- and because it's a very interesting story learning about those who came before you and what kind of world they lived in. Unfortunatly, my trail goes cold at Jose- we know that he came from Asturias, but we dont have anything beyond that on him- i would really love to be able to make a connection in Spain- although Alvarez is a much more common name there than anywhere else- i have posted some inquiries on the Spain Genweb site looking for any info on Jose while still in Spain but have'nt heard back yet.
