The Name Alvarado started about the year 50 AD in Secadura (mountains of Santander) in the north of Spain. Named Pedro de Secadura constructed a bridge across a small river in the area, a "varado" to guide them to the bridge. They changed his name to Pedro Del Varado. Later changed by grandson to "Alvarado"! The Duke of Toledo was Alvarado which may account for so many from his family comming to the New World. They are "Cantabric" peoples (Cantabric mountains) an very early tribe in Norther Spain. Most in America came from Badajos, southern Spain, from family of Garci Alvarado. The Alvarado's were ferocious warriors and mystics (Caballeros Templarios, Knight's Templar). They were old Noblemen of Castilla La Vieja. They were almost decimated by the Moors. An Alvarado Lady married a knight from the Royal Family of France (which accounts for the round face). Their Shield the castle of castille with an eagle above it, later changed to the French Knights shield, the Fleur di Lys (5) with waves at the bottom (from shield of Santander).
