The answers received so far are wrong! Alvarado family originates in Secadura Spain. This is in the mountains of Santander of old Castilla. The name Alvarado was started by one named Pedro de Secadura in the year 50 AD! He built a bridge over a closeby river and build a "varado" or something like a wood picket fence to guide the village people to the bridge. The people started calling him Pedro del Varado but one of his grandchildren changed it to "Alvarado". Del means "from the" while "Al" means "to the" which makes more sense. The Alvarado's are all related since this is a unique name that was made up! It is not Arabic at all!!!
I have visited this village and walked among the Alvarado houses and met the people there. My information was gathered at the main library of Madrid and confirmed in the village at the Alvarado-Maza Castle.

Hope all will treasure this info.
