Valerie: I thought that maybe you might be able to help clear up a question that I have about the Alvarados. My tie with the family is through Maria Dolores de Gracia Alvarado who married Leon Marie Rosas, 20 Oct 1811, Mission San Juan Capistrano. Her father was Juan Jose Marie Alvarado and her mother was Maria Antonia Josefe Valenzuela (dau. of Juan Segunda Valenzuela and Marie Augustina Alcantara of Sonora, MX) It seems that Juan Alvarado's parents were Bernardino Alvarado and Marie Teresa de Castro. At least it is the accepted fact. It is posted on the Internet and Barbara Hernandez (Genforum Alvarado message 322). You mentioned on the Genforum Alvarado message 106 that Jose Bernardino and Francisco Xavier were brothers. This is a theory that I have been working on. Have you found any references? On the San Francisco Genealogy site, under California Spanish Genealogy - Californio Families, "The Portola expedition of 1769 founded presidios and missions at San Diego and Monterey and escorted Father Juniper Serra into the province. Wives and several soldiers began to join them beginning in 1774. Most of these soldiers were leather-jackets, or 'soldados de cuera', and were Mexican-born. . .from Baja California. . .from Sinaloa; and Bernardino Alvarado." Interesting that he didn't fall into any of the categories! If you have any information that would help me I would appreciate it. I have believed for a long time that these two Alverados were brothers -- one site said that Bernardino was Francisco's father, but the dates didn't add up. Thanks, Linda Mullen Notify Administrator about this message?
