Edward Woodard, 77, of Bristol, Va., passed away Tuesday, May 4, 2004 at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, Va. Born March 1, 1927 in Topaco, N.C., he was the son of the late Andrew J. and Mary J. Woodard and was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Woodard. A 1946 graduate of Grundy High School, he attended Emory and Henry College and was a retired employee of Koch Industries. He was a member of Midway Baptist Church in Bristol; an active member of the Bristol Senior Show Choir and a founding member of the Gospel Mission Quartet. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Maxine Altizer Woodard; one daughter: Rita Viers of Piedmont, S.C.; two sons: Steve Woodard of Wilmington, N.C. and Terry Woodard of Charlottesville, Va.; four grandchildren: Amy Sutherland, Andy Viers, Preslie Ryder and Scott Crowder; two great grandchildren; his son-in-law and dear friend: Kelly D. Viers; three sisters: Mabelle Calhoun, Nina Justice and Juanita Kiem. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Midway Baptist Church, 21318 Old Dominion Road in Bristol, Va. The Rev. Dexter Terry and the Rev. Luke Martin will officiate.
