Dear Altevogt listers, my name is Barbara (Hays) Clayton, daughter of the late Dewey and Florence (Altevogt) Hays. Florence, who still survives, is the daughter of Gus and Vera (Stark) Altevogt. Gus Altevogt died a few years ago, just before my birthday in June, matter of fact, he was buried on June 23, my birthday, in St. John's Cemetery, in rural Irving, Il. Vera still survives, she is somewhat crippled with severe arthritis, which runs in our family. Gus Altevogt was the son of John and Lettie (Sammons) Altevogt, buried in McCord Cemetery, as are John's parents Ernst Henry Ludwig Altevogt and his wife Anna Heideman, daughter of Franz Adolph and Anna (Heidemann) Heidemann. Franz Altevogt's Civil War records are on file in Washington, D.C. and there is a letter in German, that names both Franz and Anna's parents. The letter is posted on Terry Dunn's website, under related families. We moved from Illinois on July 3, 2003 to Des Moines, Iowa, as my husband lost his job in Decatur, Il due to plant closure and was transfered to the Bridgestone Plant here. I hate that we were forced into moving here, but in order to protect his pension, and benefits, we had no choice. I hope to get back to Illinois soon. Our new address is:
Olin and Barb (Hays) Clayton
5937 NE 3rd
Des Moines, Iowa 50313-1442
