I don't care much for the "search for royal forebears" either, however, I do enjoy the personal sketches provided throughout Groves' book. It looks like the genealogy bug has bitten you, and you are enjoying the search. It seems that your Ann Alston comes from John Alston who m. Mary _____ (not Clark), Soloman Alston who m. Ann Nancy Hinton, John Alston who m. Elizabeth Hines to Ann Alston who m. Alexander Stirling. I do have documentation on this line if you ever decide you want it. I have not seen Weller's book. Is it still available? Good luck in your search.
