John served as a private with NC Troops (see National # 351865. He lived in Wake Co., NC during the Revolution. He is named in the will of his grandfather, John Alston, dated 20 February 1755, NC Wills-WL8, p. 2, and named in the will fo his Aunt, Charity (Alston)(Hilliard) Dawson, 24 March 1764.
