Hi Mary - you have incredible information here. Even though its probably a longshot, maybe you can help me. In past posts I have been searching for my "brick-wall" ancestor, Peter B. Alston. Because he was born in SC, per the 1850 Federal Census, Chambers Co. AL (born about 1796 also from this census), and because it was suggested to me that he could be another Peter Bacot Allston, who for some reason dropped the additional "L" in the spelling of the Alston name, I have been looking at the descendants of Peter Allston, Jr. , son of Peter Allston, Sr. and grandson of John Allston - SC branch of the family. I have lately been wondering if possibly his lineage could actually be from the NC branch of the family - John Alston/Mary Clark. In July 14, 1819 Peter B. is in Halifax, NC, (town) and purchases a marriage bond, for his marriage to Martha King, who was from Halifax. A John Minton is listed as the bondsman. Richard Eppes is the official who filled the bond out, which is paymentfor it is printed in British pounds - in the 500 amount, though I am guessing in 1819, it was actually for $500 - USA. Two or three sons are born in NC - probably Halifax, George Washington Alston, another son - do not know the name (listed as a son in the 1830 Federal Census), and James Alston, before the family moves, about the year 1827 or so to Milledgeville, Baldwin Co., GA. In the late 1830's the family is in Stewart Co. GA (1840 Federal Census) before moving sometime before 1850 to Chambers Co. AL. What interests me in the NC lineage of Alstons is that in Baldwin Co. GA and Stewart Co. GA there are descendants of Solomon and James Alston. It is peculiar to me that my Peter B. and family seem to follow this NC lineage through GA. And also many of the first names in the NC line also appear in Peter B.'s line - James, Joseph, William, Sarah, Mary, Elizabeth, Martha, Thomas - not sure if there was a George in the NC line, but I have seen Missouri also listed. Really hope you might have some kind of information to connect my Peter B. Alston to his family. I have noticed online that there are some from the NC lines that made it into SC, but as of yet I have not been able to link him to any of these. Any help is gretly apprecited.
