Well we must be 4th or 5th cousins 4 or 4 times removed or some such. We have been in SC since 1970 and we have lived in Greenwood and now live out in the country with a Hodges address. I am the research Director for Park Seed Co. in Greenwood and My wife has just retired from the school system here. We have 2 children and 3 granddaughters.
We have been through the Alston House in Charleston and also Brookgreen Gardens, which is the plantation site of some of the early Alstons. I talked to the historian there but could not find a link to granddad.
I have a brother, Fred, in Lampasas and a brother, George, in Stephenville. Also Granddad had a brother in the Plainview area - I can't remember his name, but he had a son Roy and grandson Johnny that lived in the Plainview area. Roy was doing some genealogy work and was excited when I moved to SC from Plainview, but he died shortly after I got here.
Where do you currently live? I could not for sure read your e-mail address that was posted, thus the post here.
Are you working onb the genealogy? If you know of any of the ancesters to our great grandfather, John, I would be interested.
I have a book titled "The Allstons and Alstons of North and South Carolinas". It does pretty good up to the Civil War but does not mention the migration to Arkansas.
