It sure sounds like our grandfathers were brothers. My father's brothers, Homer, JC and Kenneth all still live in Texas.Homer lives in Harker Heights, JC lives in Tyler, and I believe Kenneth lives in Temple. My father also had a step brother named BA or Buford Alfred who lived in Houston. He was quite a bit older than the others, and he died back in the 1980's.My grandfather was married and had three or four children with his first wife, and she died in a fire, and then he married my grandmother, and they had Homer, my father, JC, Frances (their sister) and Kenneth.
It's interesting that you live in South Carolina. My husband and I and our children moved around for his career, and we lived in Spartanburg, South Carolina for two years from 2003-2005.Where in South Carolina do you live? When we lived there, I took my oldest two children, and we went on a trip to Charleston. We visited the Alston House which was a historic site, and I was curious if I was related to the people who originally built the house.
Homer has been into genealogy, and he said that when the Alstons came over from Europe (England, I believe), they first settled in South Carolina before moving to Arkansas after the Civil War. I am not sure if he's into it anymore, though. He's in his mid 90's.
