I am looking for a certain Elizabeth Alston who married Ransom Sutherland prior to 1778. Documented is his marriage to Charity Alston, NOT Charity KImbrough Alston. His wife was the daughter of Solomon Alston jr. This Charity was born in 1758, married him in 1778, and died in 1811 at their home in Wake Forest NC. He had a daughter named Sarah H.(reportedly H. for Hinton) who married Samuel Williams. They moved to Kentucky where she died in 1824; this' according to her tombstone inscription which reads as follows: Sarah H. w/o Samuel Williams d. 24 January 1824 age 32 d/o Col. Ransom and Elizabeth Alston Sutherland of Wake NC.
All sources I have seen (including mine until I learned better) have named Charity Alston Kimbrough as Ransom's wife....this is not a fact. Documents support the statements regarding only Charity Alston as the actual wife, other documents exist regarding Charity Alston Kimbrough and her marriage .
One researcher alluded to Ransom married twice, without a name for wife #1. Ransom was born, documented in 1741, and could well have married Elizabeth Alston before Charity, and had children with 2 different wives....he had 7 children in all.
I will be happy to share all info I have but I need some help in locating the parents of Elizabeth, her birth and death dates, and marriage as well. All I have regarding Elizabeth is theory. Thank you, Jackie
