Re: Alsbrooks,Allsbrook,Allsbrooks, Brooks,La,TX. Mom said that John R(obert)Allsbrooks (1926) was Allen and Ollie Lovett Allsbrooks's boy. Allan was Uncle Wes (Aug 1890)and Aunt Forence Glass Allsbrooks' son, (she was Josephine's first cousin)

GGrandpa Joseph and Josephine Glass Allsbrooks lived up the road from me in a community named Peavy Switch just outside Lufkin. Joseph's son, Burl just died this past year, 2004. I have a lot of information that I have typed up in a document and still not finished typing if you want some info.

I know some think that Joseph's father was Lewis but I truly believe it was James Westley and that he died in LA since Mandy Roland was listed in LA alone. The letters could be J or T or L and the second could be R but mom said she thought Westley was more like it.I am not sure that he was listed as JW and he could have been J L, esp since his first child's was named Leonard but I read up on the old handwriting and it was definitely them. In those days it was the old reel and hours of eye strain searching.

In fact, I told others they were listed as "Osbrouk "in 1860 and "Brooks" in 1870 in LA. I stumbled over them. The Glass family is not many h/h away. I found them when hunting my husband's family about 20 years ago. Had I not just got a copy of Joseph's death cert listing his mom as a ROLAND I would have missed them and it fact had over looked them more than once back in 1990 or 1980's.

Mom kept insisting her grandmother was a Chitty, which she may have been on one side (Glass) though I think I remember that the Glass family was in Polk Co, with their mother and in the Polk Co. Marriage License listing there was a Sarah Glass marrying the Chitty in 1880 or so. I followed this family to the Trinity Co area later. There 5 boys that lived, a girl fell off a horse and killed herself and mom said she thought another had died in AK. There was a Samuel listed in the 1860 census. Also, a JL or JW Allsbrooks was listed as dying in a hospital of a head injury.

Ggrandpa Joseph had 6 girls and 3 boys with Josephine. Of course, GGrandpa Joseph had Vann and Burl which were his last two sons.

Everette died with some sort of flu or virus. Mom said he had diarrhea and they could not stop it. He was about 14. My email has changed due to a buyout of LCC to ahumble@consolidated.net if anyone would like my file then maybe we can work out this mystery.
Thanks, Adiene
