Thank you for taking the time to answer my query. I have often seen the dates that you given. When I tried to discover the source of these dates I found first that the date 1770 was a quess, simply used to place Rachel's birth in a reasonable time frame for research. That is to say "Rachel was born before 1770". Second, the date of death attributed to Rachel was actually the date that Rachel's relative sealed her to the Morman (LDS) church, and not an actual date of death. This date appeared in records because it was assumed that she died before that date in order to be sealed. Again, it originally was a date that would have read "before this date Rachel died". These records became part of the IGI without a notation that the dates should read b. bef. 1770, d. bef. 1856. According to the 1790 Randolph Co. N.C. Census, Robert Brown's household was 2 males age 16 or older, 3 males 15 or younger, 5 females of any age. If Robert Brown and his wife Rachel (Allred) Brown had 8 children in their household in 1790 and at least one was 16 years old or older, then they probably married on or before 1773. Therefore, Rachel's date of birth is probably prior to 1755. I would appreciate any information, on this family that would help arrive at more accurate dates and give more detail of their family and ancestory.
