Teri,
Here is all I have on James. Edith was my grandmother and I included a note.

NOTE:
The story that has been passed down to the present is that Mr. & Mrs. Allread allegedly died from pneumonia when Edith was three years old. In the 1900 Wyoming census, Edith reported that her father was born in Sweden and her mother in Illinois. She was probably not told that she was adopted and used her step-parents birth places. In the 1910 census, she stated that she did not know where her father was born and that her mother was born in Minnesota. Her older brother, Joseph (confirmed as older brother by Don Lee Wakeman Jr.), stated that he was born in Minnesota and his father was born in Illinois and he listed his mother as English. He was born in Minnesota but his parents birthplaces were stated in error.

Assuming that only the mother died of pneumonia and James is the father of Edith, (This is a good assumption) I present the following about James.

ALLREAD, James Marion

James was born about 1856 in Missouri. He stated in the 1900 census that both his parents were born in Missouri. He married Margaret H. Waddell (b. 1858 in Canada, on November 24, 1875, in Blue Earth county, Minnesota. They moved to Spearfish, Lawrence County, South Dakota between 1880 and 1887 and he as well as his children remained in the area after Margaret died around 1890. Known children:

I. William J., b. 28 Oct 1877 in Blue Earth county, MN; d. Aug 1966.

II. Joseph Mariam, b. 16 Oct 1879 in Blue Earth county. MN; d. Sep 1968 in Sundance, Wy. Married Edith Hilton (2nd marriage) in Sundance, WY, Sep. 26, 1908.

III. Edith Maud, b. February 20, 1887 in South Dakota; d. 18 Aug., 1957 in Longview, TX. Married Don Lee Wakeman April 25, 1906.

James married secondly Sarah Jane (Wherry) Warner, a divorcee or widow, on April 14, 1893 in Sundance, Wyoming and divorced her before 1900. Children:

IV. Ivan J., b. 14 April, 1895 in Sundance, Crook County, WY.

Don Lee Wakeman Jr. swears that he met a brother of Maud named Lee but, no record can be found to substantiate this person unless the middle name of Ivan is Lee.
