Hi Dale. I've run across two of your postings tonight. John James Allred is an ancestor on my monther's side and Jackson York is an ancestor on my father's side. Jackson's daughter Hester Ann was my great great grandmother. She married William Washam around 1860 (court records destroyed) in Union County. Just as you apparently have, I have traced Jackson and his wife Mary to various federal census in Tenn but have not ventured into NC. My maternal grandmother was Gertrude Geneva Allred (married Adam Grant Oaks, Union County). She was the great granddaughter of John James Allred and Hannah Casey (through James M. then John Wesley). I have not substantiated but have been told that John James' father was named Talbot Allred and his grandfather was named Enoch Hogan Allred. Enoch supposedly immigrated from Scotlan (low or high land ?) and settled in Buncombe County, NC. I have found many Allreds in Randolph County, NC records. I am relatively new to this geneology business and am still trying to tie up all my Tennessee family loose ends. Would appreciate any new information you receive on either family and will likewise share with you. I live in Knoxville and research at the McClung Collection downtown. Good luck.
