Is it possible that Soloman R Allred had children from a first marriage?

My Grandfather is Roland Doud(or Dowd) Allred from Jackson (Madison County), TN and I understand he may have been the only son of a first marriage, then married again and had many children.

I have yet to get death certificates for my grandparents....that I will do soon...Jim
