James Andrew Johnson "Jug" Allred, b. 1866 Blount Co., AL, mar. 1882 Blount Co., AL to Eliza Harper and they had seven children. In Feb. 1893 "Jug' was in jail in Cullman Co., AL. His wife, wearing a long dress and a large sun-bonnet, carried their baby to visited with "Jug." The Jailer left them alone so they could have some privacy. A little later the Jailer thought was Mrs. Allred was walking out with her baby, and when he went to check on Mr. Allred, he found Mrs. Allred in the cell. He, immediately, turned and ran outside, saw Mr. Allred and the baby in the distance, and yelled "Halt." The Jailer fired his pistol in the air. "Jug" put the baby in his father's wagon and took off. He hid in the wilderness in the southwestern part of Cullman Co., AL for about 6 months. He was then carried to Cullman in a wagon loaded with unginned cotton. When they got to the train station, he got out, and got on a train to never be heard of again. Rumors came that he was in TX and NM. Also, one rumor placed him in MS, thought to be in the Tupelo area where he raised another family. If anyone has any record of this James Andrew Johnson "Jug" Allred I would appreciate hearing from you. Dewel C. Lott Hartselle, AL
