I recently purchased at a Fremont (Niles District), CA antiques store the subject undated snapshot and another undated snapshot of their home with Susan and her son Jesse and his wife, plus another woman (Frannie?), on the front porch. The photo of the elderly couple is identified on the back: "Mothers brother Uncle Dave Allison and Aunt Susan Fran Allison's Grandparents" The second photo of the home is identified on the back: "Uncle David Allisons home - Left to right - Jesses wife, Frannie, Aunt Susie and Jesse." Jesse appears to be in his late 20s or early 30s in this photo which was probably taken in the early 1900s. I found this family listed in the 1870 U.S. Census data for Newton, Whiteside Co., IL; the 1880 U.S. Census data for La Porte, Black Hawk Co., IA; the 1900 U.S. Census data for Kensett, Worth Co., IA; and the 1910 and 1920 U.S. Census data, and the 1925 Iowa State Census data for La Porte, Black Hawk Co., IA. I also found them listed in the Kardell Family Tree posted on ancestry.com. David was employed as a farmer, stock dealer, and truck farmer over the course of his long life. David Allison, born Feb 1842 in OH, died 3 Feb 1929, married Susan Frances Booth, born Sep 1849 in IN, died 1929. Judging by the couple's apparent age and an automobile partially visible behind them in the photo, I estimate that it was taken in the 1920s. David is wearing what is probably a Civil War medal on his lapel (he served in the G 46 Illinois Infantry). Contact me if you are interested in viewing and/or acquiring these photos.
