I've got a couple of possibilities for your Joseph from the Romaldkirk parish records: son of George and Martha Dowson Allinson of Cotherstone, bapt 11 Nov 1749 or son of Edward and Mary Knaggs Allison of Lonton, bapt 18 Sep 1743. (Ignore the ns in the surnames; the clerks seemed to add them at will.) If the first one is yours, we may be related.
