Hello long-lost cousin! Just noticed your earlier post a while ago and had planned to write to you this evening. So glad to see yet another member of the family appear. Just for the record, here's how we connect. CHARLES ALLISON who married BARBARA MOORE was a brother of my gggg grandfather BENJAMIN ALLISON. Charles stayed in Maryland, but Benjamin and a huge group of Maryland Allison migrated into the mountains of western NC where the greastest population density of the family is found today. Hence the location of the National Allison Family Reunion. Here's a quick rundown on the reunion. Location is Brevard, NC close to Asheville, NC and a few miles off the highest elevations of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Incidentally, Brevard is the site of the oldest documented surviving Allison Family home in America today, the 1816 Allison-Deaver House, now fully restored and open to the public as a museum. We plan to include a special afternoon event at the house as part of the 2003 reunion. The date for next year is the weekend of October 18. Events will begin on Friday, October 17, and continue on across the weekend, with main events on Saturday the 18th. Plans are far from complete for 2003 as we've just completed the 2002 edition. Incidentally, the 2002 reunion closed before a crowd of 750 people! It's a major cultural event to say the least. Tentative plans just now taking shape include two family history seminars and workshops for the weekend. And of course there will be tons of live entertainment, all drawn from our heritage. We celebrate our heritage through the songs and dances of our people across the centuries. Will post more specific plans as they materialize a little closer to date, no doubt by February. The reunion is an annual private event of the huge NATIONAL ALLISON (ALLANSON) FAMILY ASSOCIATION. Even though it's a private event, we invite all members of our particular Allsion family to attend as our guests. The reunion is one of two major projects of the organization. The other on-going project is publishing THE ALLISON FAMILY VOICE, a magazine format quarterly that is loaded with news of the past and present of our family. If interested in membership and being a part of it all, please contact me direct, off-forum at: dma12@bellsouth.net Hope to hear from you and we hope to be able to soon welcome you "home" to the greater family.
