William Allgood Jr and Sr, Elbert Co GA
I have a question that someone may be able to answer for me. I am trying to figure out William Allgood Sr and Jr. who lived in Elbert Co. GA in the early 1800s.
There is a listing in Elbert County for a William Allgood Jr. and Sr. for the 1821 land lottery for the war of 1812.In 1820 Elbert County census, there is a listing for a William Allgood Sr. and a listing for a William Allgood Jr.Considering that both are listed as being between 26yrs and 45yrs of age in the census and both had to be of age to serve in the war of 1812, it gets confusing.
I am assuming that William Allgood Sr. is the one who married Mary and is listed living in Paulding Co Ga in 1850 and 1860 and has a will dated 1870 in that county, since on this site, many have noted that he lived in Elbert Co. before moving to Paulding Co.But according to cemetery records for the Allgood cemetery in Paulding Co, his son William Allgood Jr. was born in May 15, 1816. So he could not be the one listed in the 1820 census or the war of 1812 land lottery.
So who is William Allgood Jr. listed in 1820 census and 1821 land lottery list for war of 1812?
I am assuming that William Allgood Jr. is the William b.1787 who married Jincy Wright b.1797 and was living in Elbert County in census records from 1820-1850.
Since their age is so close, Elbert Co. 1830 and 1840 census can be confusing, but I am assuming the William listed for these census are the William b.1787 who married Jincy, based on the age of his wife, since cemetery records and later census show William Sr's wife Mary was older than him.
Are these two men related? If people are correct in stating that William Allgood Sr. lived in Elbert County before moving to Paulding Co., (The age of the wife of William Sr in 1820 fits Mary's age) then they are living very close to each other in Elbert in 1820. Could they be cousins?
