I'm a descendent of Samuel's (probable) brother Varney. I don't have anything concrete about Samuel or Edmond, just this, which is a portion of Joy Bridenstine's work "The Allgood-Padgett Connection", in which Samuel is mentioned, and possibly your Edmond, which was posted earlier under the heading "KY/VA/IA Oral History" (there is more in that post, probably off-topic for you, which isn't included here): "The next Allgood to come (to Iowa) was Samuel and his wife, Polly or Mary Padget. His obituary states (that) he was born in Virginia and moved to Kentucky in 1816, (then) to Iowa in 1851. Many of his children did not marry and two daughters married the same man, Franklin Wymore. This family is also buried in Wymore Cemetary. "(In 1853 Charles Allgood and his wife, Ellizabeth? Goode) arrived. (They) came directly from Kentucky. They were the parents of eleven children, and all but (the) two youngest were born in Kentucky. (Charles') family (left) Iowa with some (of his children) going to Nebraska and (some to) Washington (Territory). (Charles) died in 1883 and no obituary can be found. "... (In 1854) Varney (Sr.) and his wife, Nancy Frances Dimue, arrived in Iowa with seven children. ...(F)our more were born in Iowa. ...(B)y the 1870s (Varney Sr.) is believed to have gone west to Nebraska and perhaps for a time (to) Washington Territory. In the 1880 census he is (listed) in Lincoln, Nebraska. He died sometime between 1885 and 1900, and is buried in the cemetery at Brownville, Nebraska. We have been unable to find a death record or obituary for Varney or Nancy Frances. "...(R)ecent research (1989) would lead us to believe that if these men were brothers (and they could have been for they were all born between 1801 and 1815), that they were the sons of an Edward Allgood from Virginia. During the same period, in Kentucky...there was also an Edmund Allgood who left a will naming four sons -- Frederick, William, Edmund Jr. and John. We have found information on Frederick and Edmund Jr., but (we) cannot (connect any family members with) William (or) John for certain. Edmund Jr.'s son, Robert M., came to Iowa in the late 1870s and died (here) in 1890. Another son, Spencer, married Lucy Frances Douglas and moved to Indiana, where he died after the Civil War. (Lucy Frances Douglas Allgood) remarried, but later moved to Mahaska County, Iowa and died (here) in 1923. Her son, Westerd, also came to Iowa and died here in 1950. (Lucy and Westerd) are buried together in White Oak Cemetery (Mahaska County IA?)." Notify Administrator about this message?
