Hi Brian,
Thanks for the information. There doesn't seem to be a direct link between my Edmond and Varney. I'm at a loss for where to search further for information on Edmond and is parents. There is a story told about him within the family that he had been in Iowa and had killed a man, presumably in self-defense. And that he had been put on a train and told not to come back. He then ended up in Springfield, TN. I haven't been able to trace him back to Iowa though. If the story is even true, it may not have been Iowa, it could have been anywhere I suppose. Anyway, he was in Tennessee by 1873, I found a court record where he had been arrested and then released for G.A. (Going Armed) that year.
My G-grandfather's Census records are inconsistant with reguard to his father's place of birth, but I believe Kentucky was most likely the state of origin for Edmond. I found an 1850 Census record in KY for a Robert Allgood who had a son Edmund who's age seemed to match my Edmond's. That's the closest I've gotten to finding any information on that line.
Again, thanks for the assistance. If you know of any sources of information that might be of benifit I'd appreciate hearing about them.

Sincerly,
Mike
