Edmond Allgood of Springfield, TN
Posted by: Michael Allgood Date: November 11, 1999 at 09:38:13

I was hoping someone might have some information on Edmond Allgood. Edmond was born sometime around 1847, 1848. He may have been born in Kentucky or may have immigrated from Ireland. He married Amanda (no maiden name available), year unknown. They either married in Tennessee (most likely) or move here. There is a family story that says that Ed was living in Iowa and had befriended a married lady (no detail on their relationship). This ladies husband was given to beating the young lady and on one such occasion, as the story goes, Ed intervened. In the pursuing confrontation, Ed killed the man. The city officials (which city is not known), instead of trying him in court, put Ed on a train and gave the conductor $20 and told him to take Ed as far as it would. The story concludes with Ed being dropped in Springfield, TN. I believe I have found Ed in the 1880 Census report for Tennessee, although I haven't been able to directly tie that Edmond to my G-grandfather Robert H. of Springfield, TN.

Any assistance of information or further sources to search would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike
