Hi, Judy.
All that I have on Mattie Smith is what you found on her death certificate stating that Sarah Alley and George Smith were her parents. In 1880 Sarah Smith is living with her parents Horatio Gates Alley (listed as Hadley Alley on the census) with two children younger than Mattie would have been - Benjamin and Arizona Smith. There is no sign of Mattie. There are 6 year old girls with that name on the census, but I have no way of connecting them. I wish I could.
