Hi, Gary - your statements are consistent with what I have found out about the family in researching. I think Mary "Polly" Alley must have been a very brave woman to have endured her captivity and then have escaped. I did not know that Samuel had enlisted three times - that is interesting. I have some of the lists of men serving to defend against Indian attacks in the southwest Virginia area. Patrick Porter, a friend of James L. Alley who lived in the same general area, is also one of my ancestors in a different family line. It is nice to meet a distant cousin. Kay
