Some researchers have researched the name, and there are a few possibilities. 1. In Somerset after the "Doomsday Book" inventory was taken, there was an "Aley" listed in the census taken in 1086 (England) 2. Some people think that the surname Alley was originally the French - Allie/Allee. 3. The English often end their surnames with a "y" a similar French name is likely to end with an "e". There are several variations in England of the name: Allee, Ally, Allee, Aley, Allye, and a few others. Just some ideas from research I've found. Enjoy.
